Martin Clarifies Weird Stadium Comment Amidst Rogers Centre Buzzes

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has moved to clarify his earlier remarks regarding Toronto’s Rogers Stadium, asserting he never intended to criticize the newly built venue. The singer’s initial comments on Monday, thanking fans for their journey to this weird stadium in the middle of nowhere, had sparked discussion among concertgoers and media alike.
During Coldplay’s third of four concerts at the stadium on Friday, Martin addressed the audience directly to clear the air. He emphasized his gratitude for the new facility, stating, I have never criticized this stadium that was beautifully, kindly built for us to play in. I don’t think to say anything mean at all. His aim, he explained, was solely to acknowledge the effort fans made to attend the show.
The stadium, located on the former Downsview Airport lands, has faced some initial challenges, including complaints about crowd control and egress after its opening last month. Rogers and Live Nation Canada have acknowledged these concerns, with Live Nation implementing adjustments to improve crowd flow, traffic, and accessibility.
As the venue continues to fine-tune its operations, it prepares to host K-Pop sensation Blackpink for two back-to-back shows on July 22 and 23, further testing its capacity and logistical improvements.
