Fleur de sel, Himalayan salt, and other “natural” varieties decorate pantries with their striking appearance. Marketers suggest these products come with a health bonus, thanks to the minerals they retain.

But nutrition experts see it differently. The trace minerals are present in such tiny fractions that they fail to offer health benefits. Fruits, nuts, and vegetables remain the best sources for minerals.

The real health issue is sodium overload. Too much salt—no matter the brand or color—can drive up blood pressure and strain your organs. The recommended daily limit is six grams, but most far exceed this—often unknowingly.

To make a genuine change, start checking nutrition labels and reduce all sources of added salt in your diet, not just swap types.
