US Pounds ISIS Infrastructure: 70 Targets Hit After Attack Kills Three Americans

by admin477351

The United States conducted a large-scale military operation against Islamic State positions throughout Syria, striking 70 targets linked to terrorist infrastructure. The comprehensive action followed a deadly attack that claimed American lives and represented swift retaliation for one of the deadliest incidents involving US forces in Syria this year.

Three Americans were killed in an ambush near Palmyra when an assailant attacked a convoy supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. Two US Army soldiers and a civilian interpreter died in the assault, while three others sustained injuries. The attacker, identified as a Syrian security force member suspected of ISIS sympathies, was eliminated during the confrontation.

Operation Hawkeye Strike targeted critical ISIS capabilities across central Syria, hitting weapons facilities, training sites, and command centers. Military officials indicated the strikes successfully degraded terrorist infrastructure and that additional operations should be anticipated. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the strikes with strong rhetoric, declaring America would continue hunting and eliminating ISIS elements that threaten American forces.

President Trump justified the military action as necessary response to ISIS’s “vicious” killing of American personnel. He expressed optimism about Syria’s future under President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s leadership, noting cooperation on counter-terrorism efforts. The Syrian government has publicly supported eliminating ISIS, recognizing the terrorist organization as a threat to national stability and reconstruction.

Syria’s political landscape has transformed dramatically following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, creating new opportunities for security cooperation. The current government includes former opposition fighters with extensive experience combating terrorism, bringing practical knowledge to counter-terrorism operations. While the Trump administration has discussed reducing American military presence in Syria, recent events may influence strategic planning. US forces continue operating from multiple locations throughout the country, particularly in Kurdish-controlled areas and along strategic borders, where they work with international partners to maintain pressure on terrorist networks. Syria’s foreign ministry has committed to ensuring ISIS finds no safe haven within its territory, affirming shared objectives with international counter-terrorism efforts.
