Cuba is in the process of restoring electricity after a nationwide blackout occurred, leaving millions without power. This marks the third time in less than ten days that the entire island has experienced such an outage. The blackout on Tuesday was caused by an issue at a thermoelectric generating unit, which led to a sudden change in frequency, according to the national electricity company.
Efforts to restore power commenced later on the same day. However, authorities have indicated that the restoration process is gradual as the system stabilizes. Despite these efforts, significant areas, including the capital Havana, continued to face power outages on Wednesday.
The country is grappling with an ongoing energy crisis fueled by severe fuel shortages and outdated power infrastructure. These issues have severely impacted the reliability of the national grid, limiting the capacity to utilize emergency generators, as stated by officials.
The persistent power outages have significantly disrupted daily life across the island. Residents have expressed mounting frustration over the regular power cuts, raising concerns about the spoilage of food and the disruption of essential services.
