In the midst of the ongoing conflict in Yemen, Iran has firmly denied any involvement, asserting that the Houthi forces are autonomous and make independent decisions. Esmaeil Baghaei, a spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, emphasized that Tehran does not meddle in Yemeni affairs, dismissing allegations that Iran is connected to the recent events involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen. According to Baghaei, the roots of the conflict are entrenched within Yemen itself.
Baghaei also revealed that a regional meeting planned to take place in Oman, which would have included Iran and Gulf countries, has been postponed at the request of Saudi Arabia. The meeting was set to focus on regional security and fostering cooperation among the involved nations. Despite the delay, Baghaei confirmed that Iran and Oman have reached an understanding on maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz, and the two nations will decide on the next steps independently of the postponed talks.
Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, commented on the postponement, suggesting that it was intended to facilitate consensus among the participating countries. He reiterated Oman’s commitment to promoting dialogue, ensuring regional stability, and pursuing long-term cooperative efforts.
